The Hornet Tribune is the student-operated campus newspaper at Alabama State University. Originally published in 1926 as the State Normal Courier, it was renamed in 1962 to The Hornet Tribune. During the fall and spring semesters, the newspaper is printed on Tuesdays and a digital edition is published on Monday evenings. During the summer, it is published once every two weeks.
The Hornet Tribune — which has a print circulation of 5,000 — covers a range of issues relevant to students, including campus life, the administration, university sports teams, and the city of Montgomery. The newsroom is located in the John Garrick Hardy Center on the 2nd Floor in Room A2.18.
Former staff members have gone on to work at a variety of publications.
Opinions expressed in the columns, cartoons, photo illustrations and letters that appear on The Hornet Tribune’s editorial pages are the views of the individual writers and cartoonists. As a public forum for student expression, the students determine the content of the publication without prior review.

Ten student editors sit on the Editorial Board, along with the General Manager, who is a non-voting member. The Executive Editor of The Hornet Tribune is chairwoman and heads the Editorial Board.
