The Tribune Alumni Association (TAA) is an organization of alumni of Alabama State University’s student newspaper, The Hornet Tribune. The TAA has a dual mission of serving both its alumni members and the current student staff of The Hornet Tribune.
The newspaper was founded in 1923 (originally as “The State Normal Courier” before becoming weekly). The TAA was created in 2005, although there had been several previous short-lived attempts to create an alumni organization dating back to the 1990s.
More than 1,000 living The Hornet Tribune alumni are joining the The Tribune Alumni Association and can be found through the alumni directory on this website. Many become paid members of the TAA each year, defraying the costs of running the TAA and contributing to the operation of The Hornet Tribune. One of the goals of the TAA is to cover its costs, so that the alumni organization does not need to draw funds away from the newspaper. You can make a membership donation by clicking here.
If you are a The Hornet Tribune alumnus who has not received periodic emails or mailings from us, and you haven’t previously used this site, please sign up for your free basic membership by clicking here. If you have previously registered with the TAA and want to get your login name and password to update your contact information or access other features of the website, please write us a short email at firstname.lastname@example.org with your name and class year, and we’ll send you login information.
Contributions to the TAA are greatly and gratefully appreciated. You can make a new or renewal membership gift by clicking here, or you can designate a contribution to the Brandon Tanksley-Melinda Crum Scholarship Fund (which helps current The Hornet Tribune students devote more time to The Hornet Tribune instead of maintaining outside jobs) or The Hornet Tribune Development Fund (which aims to provide for a new home for The Hornet Tribune and other long-term needs of the organization) by clicking here.
